The Final Stretch!
As I suspected, this has all gone by in a blur, but the good news is that we will all get to meet you soon! The sad part is that I don't know if I will be ready. Of course there are all the necessary preparations, but that isn't what I am referring to. With my nesting already kicking in, I am sure I will be fine on that front.
What I am referring to though is not being pregnant anymore. I don't think I will be ready to not have you with me all the time. To know that I will only have a few short weeks with you and then I will have to go back to work, while someone else gets the joy of holding you in their arms all day. While I am at work crying and trying to remind myself that it is necessary (already crying just thinking about this). With Austin I was able to walk across the parking lot to the daycare and see him anytime it got hard, and to feed him. The heartache that I was spared thanks to that cannot be measured. And knowing that will not be the case with you makes each day harder and more emotional for me. Having all of last week at home on bed rest with you and Austin didn't help. It reminded me how amazing it would be to be at home. How happy it makes me when I am able to be 100% mommy and wife. How much more pride I feel when cooking or cleaning than I do working on a project at the office.
Sorry, I digress... I am not ready to stop feeling all your amazing movements all day and night. Being pregnant and having a life inside is truly an experience unlike any other and I cannot explain the joy it brings me. I say that with a huge smile on my face as you are kicking (or hitting) away at my belly.
I still say kicking/hitting although at this point it must be starting to get a little cramped in there for you, because the movements are different now. I don't know the best way to explain it maybe fluid or rolling? The feeling starts in one place and moves along my stomach for a bit. I love it!! Thank goodness, because it never stops! I am also not sure if I am ready for the challenge that I expect your active little self to be based on those constant movements!! I don't know when you sleep now, what if you don't sleep upon arrival either!!??
***********************************
Now that I am done with that little rant, I will post some actual updates!
You - Can now open your eyelids! In fact, all five of your senses are completely developed. You are obviously starting to put on some fat - and will continue to gain at about a half a pound a week from here on out!
Let's see, what is new with me... I didn't hear anything back on my gestational diabetes test, so that must mean I passed?? I guess I will find out Tuesday for sure. And after Tuesday's appointment I believe I will be going every two weeks! My stomach has finally gotten tight and not just poochy! I think my chest is going through a little growth spurt this week... not that you can tell so much because my stomach is still further reaching! I am eventually going to have to go and buy some maternity pants because my big girl pants (the ones I wore before I joined Weight Watchers and lost the baby weight from Austin) are no longer able to handle my growing belly. This makes every morning miserable as I try to find clothes to wear for work. Oh, but I am right on track with the recommended weight gain according to "the books". I am getting increasingly more emotional and I don't think Daddy knows what to do with me! By increasingly, I mean I have become full-blown CRAZY. One minute I am happy, the next I am screaming, and then I start crying. It is very exhausting!
That is about it for now. I feel like I could go on and on, but I will save some for other posts!
Love always,
Mommy
Here We Grow!!
Okay, and here I am adding some pictures from that morning because I still cannot get over how much my stomach changes from morning to evening. Now, keep in mind that this is was taken when I was sick so a) please ignore the fact that I look like crap and b) I was not eating a whole lot, so it wasn't pizza or anything else!!
Not sure if it has to do with food or you moving around, but it just blows my mind!! Anyhow, I am having so much fun watching you grow and promise to get better in the coming weeks about taking the pics and posting them.

And the Winner is...
This particular post has been a long time coming. You see, we have been struggling to no end on what to name you. Nothing has felt or sounded right to me. I knew I wanted a biblical name and I kept leaning towards Luke. Of course it doesn't help that it is Christmas time and so everything that we read or hear about right now refers to the gospel of Luke. Therefore, it just felt like that name was "the one." The problem was that none of the middle names we thought of made it flow and nothing sounded as grand as Austin Alexander.
Your daddy was set on the middle name Asher and it started to grow on me, but it didn't really work with Luke. Maybe Lucas, but I wanted Luke.
Austin has been set on either sister or Ethan. Obviously sister doesn't work! And Ethan Asher had the flow to it, but I didn't see Ethan as a biblical name. So it just wasn't clicking in my head. And when I say set on it, he would literally scream it at your daddy when your daddy tried to suggest something else. They would go back and forth and Austin never wavered.
This went on for weeks, until a co-worker upon hearing of the predicament finally said, there are a ton of names in the Bible, it is very possible Ethan is in there. So I did a Google search and was in shock at what I found.
The Biblical baby name Ethan is Hebrew in origin and it's meaning is firm or enduring. This immediately struck a chord with me as it seemed so fitting after having a miscarriage last year. You are already firm and enduring!
Ethan is the name of four men in the Bible.I wonder if you will be my little musician!? Maybe that is what you are constantly doing in my tummy, playing the drums?
- Ethan the Ezrahite was the son of Mahol. He was distinguished for his wisdom, which was surpassed only by Solomon. Ethan is the author of the 89th Psalm.
- Ethan was a grandson of Judah, and father of Azariah.
- Ethan was a Levite of the family of Merari. He was a musician at the temple during the time of David.
- One of the ancestors of Asaph the musician was named Ethan. He belonged to the tribe of Levi.
Anyhow, I then looked up Psalm 89.
A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
Clearly our search was over, the name Ethan could not be more perfect for you. Your brother had it right all along and I was too stubborn to listen to a two year old! It turns out God was giving us the name as I had prayed he would, he was just doing it through Austin and I almost missed it.
Since the middle name Asher sounded great with Ethan, there was no questioning that one. I knew that it was biblical as Asher was one of the son's of Jacob, and therefore one of the tribes of Israel. But I was very happy to discover that the meaning was blessed or happy.
Long story short, your name is finally official!! Ethan Asher Arnett

I'm Back!
I guess that is what happens when you are too busy and too stressed, but I began feeling my back ache and then my stomach started cramping again on Sunday night and I slept horribly through the night in complete discomfort. When I woke up and started getting ready, I realized quickly there was no way I could make it in to work like that. My stomach felt like it was contracting (or cramping) every couple minutes and it was excruciating. I would be somewhat okay in between cramps, but they were so frequent that I knew I was worthless. I couldn't even get Austin ready to take him to daycare while I figured out what to do.
First I called the doctors office to see if the nurse had any recommendations and the doctor said to get in there ASAP. Next, I called Noni and thank goodness she was ready to help at the drop of a dime. She rushed right over and got Austin ready while I finished getting myself ready. She then drove me to the doctor and watched kept Austin tolerable in the waiting room. They stayed content in there for an hour and a half... and he hadn't even had breakfast!!
Everyone was so sweet to me. Even the nurse who I never feel a lot of love from was telling me how pretty I looked (mind you, I looked like death) and when I mentioned I didn't feel pretty she told me I always look so pretty. That helped put a smile on my face... until the next cramp came! Dr. checked everything and you are doing okay in there. Your heartbeat is good, my cervix is still closed up tight and you are moving around without any problems, so it must just be a stomach bug that I have to let pass. He said just to be safe, take the rest of the week off work and get some rest.
I was not very excited about telling my boss I needed all Christmas week off after all, but I wasn't about to take the chance of this going horribly wrong or being stretched out through Christmas Eve/Christmas Day.
Austin and I spent the rest of the afternoon in bed until daddy came home and rescued him! Of course, one of the docs orders was to stay hydrated and I hadn't had it in me to get anything to drink all day, nor did I really care to. So, as soon as daddy got home he got me food and drink... which immediately sent a message to my stomach that it was time for more horrendous cramping!
I have yet to get out of bed this morning, but I want to say that I am feeling better. You seem to be happy and moving around like crazy (as always), so that is great!
I will probably post again later because I have been slacking on the bump pictures and because I should probably include a name update!
Love you always,
Mommy

What a Difference
He immediately told me that my back was having spasms. Of course, he said that was perfectly normal in pregnant women because of the extra weight in the front. He informed me that I should invest in a pregnancy pillow to sleep with and a little pillow for my desk and the car.
I am not sure if it was just the massage in general, the room being incredibly hot or me being super uncomfortable on that chair, but I started to feel incredibly nauseous. I was worried that I could not even make it through my 15 minutes and was trying to take deep breaths and just stick it out.
Luckily I did and about an hour and a half after I was done, I started feeling good again. Of course, now the rest of my body is jealous and would like a massage!
Just Need to Vent
It isn't much really to complain about really for a pregnant woman and I feel guilty that I am bothered at all, I have had such an easy pregnancy. One day of discomfort truly seems like nothing. I would honestly take being miserable every single day to end up with a happy, healthy baby. I guess it is just because I am not used to be uncomfortable? The only other day that I felt like this so far was Thanksgiving night and the day after, when I turned out to be sick with some kind of bug. I am pretty sure I am not sick this time though.
Oh well, enough of that. Here is a picture from Monday (23/24 weeks). I will still do a 24 week picture, but this is kind of a follow-up to the pizza posts.
I was just reading my cute weekly update blog and it seems that you are fixing to have a couple growth spurts. This week you are about a foot long, but looking ahead it seems that next week you will have jumped to 13.5 inches and two weeks after that you will be 15 inches... that is getting very close to the 18.5 inches your brother was when he was born!
Hopefully those spurts don't equal massive weight gain for mommy! I am still doing considerably well (compared to last time). I am not sure exactly how much I had gained at this point with Austin, but let's put it this way... I would need to gain about 50 pounds over the next 12 weeks to catch up to my pre-delivery weight from that pregnancy.
On a very exciting note, I saw you actually move across my belly for the first time Monday night. Not just a kick, but an actual movement. It was amazing and had daddy very curious what was so funny.
That is about it for now. Back to focusing on how no matter how I move and adjust my sitting position, I cannot get comfortable!
~ Mommy
P.S. Every day/week/month from here on out I get to be a little bit more excited that you are getting healthy enough to be born! At this point all your little organs are just working on getting bigger and stronger so that you will be okay when you come into the world.

Maybe It Was the Pizza
I will go ahead and post this one though so that you can see what a difference 8 hours makes - and not just in my belly!!

I Am So Confused!
The Countdown
Right now you are very heavily on my mind because you keep saying hi to me in the form of sweet little movements. I wouldn't call it kicking, at the moment it is more like you are just shifting around a lot. Maybe you are waving to me. Maybe you are trying to swim. Maybe you are trying to tell me that you loved the hot chocolate and I should go get some more for you. Who knows, but I love it!
I am not sure if you were moving around a lot last night, but I was dreaming about you moving around all night. Hopefully I wasn't squishing you. I am trying to sleep on my side mostly, but I keep finding myself back on my stomach. It isn't really comfortable or natural at this point, but that is how I sleep so my mind must be having trouble accepting that it is not possible right now.
Then there is the conversation with Daddy. It goes something like this... "I was noticing that I have 118 days left in this pregnancy. Since Austin was 18 days early, does that mean that it is possible I have less than 100 days left?" To which the response was something along the lines of yes. Can you believe that?? Potentially less than 100 days! I better get cracking on my lists!!
Speaking of, I just realized I didn't include the hospital tours or registering for one of the hospitals on the list of To Do's. Better add that one now, not that I see myself forgetting it, but you never know with me these days! Do you think I should put, PICK OUT NAME on that list?
Back to work, my computer seems willing to cooperate now. I love you!! New bump pictures coming soon.

Check List 2 - Needs vs. Wants
It is amazing how little this list is (especially the wants, knowing how I am), but just so that I feel ready for your arrival, I have created a checklist for myself to attack. I have approximately three months to work my way down the list to ensure a stressless (yeah right) March.

Your First Thanksgiving
Well, kind of! You got to enjoy your first Thanksgiving meal this week. Although, I don't really think that we ate all that much. You must have been pushing just right to make me feel full quickly, which is a good thing. I always feel so guilty if I overeat during the holidays! As expected, it was all delicious and you didn't seem to have any objections!
So we are now to what might very well be the best time of pregnancy. Right now I get to feel you all the time, but I still feel great. I literally feel you all the time, and Daddy gets to as well! I think that you are going to be more of a handful than Austin as you seem to have more energy than you know what to do with. Luckily, he should be able to help wear you out plenty when you are big enough to really wear me out!
Speaking of Daddy feeling you, I want to add a little note in case I ever need to refer back to figure out when certain milestones occurred! The first time he ever saw you moving around was at our doctors appointment on November 11 when I was about 20 weeks. Since he is so impatient, it took a little longer for him to start feeling you, but during week 22 he very obviously felt you for the first time! You gave him a nice little kick!! He doesn't have to be very patient to feel you these days though. Now that it has started, I don't see it stopping!
For the most part I feel great. (Excluding my bout with some nasty bug this past week - not your fault - although it did have me worrying about you for a bit). The only thing that I have noticed is that you sometimes like to move up high into my lungs so that I can hardly breathe. I find that on those days, I am extremely irritable with most people. I am convinced that a lack of oxygen has a very negative impact on a person's mood.
I have less than two weeks to go until my next appointment, which I did reschedule to morning. I just can't go all day without eating very much!! Speaking of eating, I am doing really good about not overeating and I am staying right on track with the recommended weight gain so far. The result... a super-cute baby bump instead of a blimped up mommy!!
I started looking into the hospital tours, but it looks like our options for December are limited, so I am going to schedule that for January. They recommend doing all that in the 5th or 6th month and I will actually be well into the 7th month, but that should be okay as long as everything continues to go smooth with the pregnancy.
It is so crazy to think about how far along I am and how soon you will be here. This time really is flying. According to the sites I look at, starting next week you will have a fighting chance at survival if for some reason you had to be born. As scary as the thought of you being born so early is, it is reassuring to know that each week we go after next week equals a stronger, healthier baby boy.
Yes, I am still calling you baby boy because we still do not have the perfect name picked out. Even though we spent the whole weekend practically going through names with family!! I told Daddy last night that we are just going to have to leave it in God's hands and the perfect name will present itself between now and time to take you home from the hospital!
Rest easy and know that you are so loved.
